Terms of Use

Last updated 24 August 2026

These are the rules for using Biteline: what you get, what you pay, what happens when you want to stop, and what the app is emphatically not — a substitute for a doctor.

If you only read two sections, read the medical disclaimer and how auto-renewal works.

Contents

01The agreement

These terms are a contract between you and Cloudevia, registered at 145 rue des Meuniers, 92220 Bagneux, France, company number 952479681, VAT FR57952479681 (“we”, “us”). They cover the Biteline mobile app, this website, and anything we add to either.

By creating an account or using Biteline you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, do not use the app — and if you already have an account, delete it.

02Biteline is not medical advice

This is the most important section in this document, so it sits near the top rather than buried at the bottom.

Read this before you change how you eat

Biteline is a general wellness and food-logging tool. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and nothing it shows you is medical, nutritional or dietetic advice.

The calorie and macro numbers it produces are estimates. A photo cannot reveal hidden oil, the exact cut of meat, or what is under the sauce, and portion sizes are inferred, not measured. Treat every figure as a rough guide to be corrected, not a measurement.

Your daily target is the output of a standard population formula (Mifflin-St Jeor) applied to the numbers you entered. It knows nothing about your medical history.

Talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before starting any diet, and especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have diabetes, kidney, liver or heart disease, an eating disorder or a history of one, or take medication affected by diet.

We floor every calculated target at a conservative minimum and we will not generate an aggressive deficit, but no software can decide what is safe for your body. That judgement stays with you and your clinician.

03Your account

You must be at least 13 to use Biteline, and at least 16 in the EEA and the UK unless a parent or guardian consents on your behalf (see the Privacy Policy). One account per person.

Keep your credentials to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, unless it happens because of a failure on our side. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access.

Give us accurate profile details. If your height, weight, age or activity level is wrong, the target the app calculates will be wrong too, and we cannot be responsible for that.

04What Biteline gives you

A licence to use Biteline on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use. That licence is personal, non-exclusive, revocable and non-transferable.

The free tier

Free accounts get 3 AI photo scans per day, reset at midnight in your device’s timezone. Manual logging, food search, barcode scanning, your daily target, weight tracking and your history are unlimited and free. Nothing you have already logged is ever locked behind a paywall.

Premium

Biteline Premium raises the allowance to 20 AI photo scans per day and unlocks the paid features described on the pricing section of our site at the time you subscribe. The daily cap exists because each scan costs us real money at our AI provider; it is a cost control, not an upsell trick.

We may change, add or remove features. If a change materially reduces what a paid subscription gives you, we will tell you before it takes effect and you may cancel and ask us for a pro-rata refund of the unused period.

05Accuracy of AI estimates

Every scan runs through an AI vision model. Models get things wrong. They can misidentify a dish, misjudge a portion, miss an ingredient entirely or invent one that is not there.

That is why every number in a scan result is editable before you log it, why the app shows a confidence indicator, and why it prompts you to double-check a low-confidence result. Please do check them. We provide the estimates “as is” and make no warranty about their accuracy, completeness or fitness for any particular purpose.

Food databases and barcode data come from third-party sources and can also be wrong or out of date. If you spot a bad entry, tell us and we will look at it.

06Subscriptions, prices and auto-renewal

Premium is not on sale yet. Nobody is being charged today: the store listings are not live and we are taking no payments. The terms below are the ones that will apply the moment subscriptions open, published in advance so you can read them before you are ever asked for money.

Biteline Premium will be sold as an auto-renewing subscription in two plans:

  • €89.99 per year, billed once every 12 months.
  • €9.99 per month, billed every month.

Prices include VAT where applicable and are shown in euro. The store may display a converted price in your local currency and charge you that instead; the store’s figure is the one that governs your payment.

How auto-renewal works

  • Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account when you confirm the purchase.
  • The subscription renews automatically for another period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • The renewal is charged within the 24 hours before the period ends, at the then-current price for your plan.
  • You manage and cancel the subscription in your store account settings, not in Biteline. The support page has the exact taps for iOS and Android.
  • Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not end the period you have already paid for — you keep Premium until it expires.

Price changes

If we raise the price of your plan, the store will notify you and ask for your consent before the increase applies to your renewal. If you do not consent, the subscription simply does not renew.

Free trials, where offered

If we offer a trial, it converts into a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. One trial per person, per plan.

07Who you are actually paying

You do not pay us directly. Purchases made in the app are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, under their terms and their payment relationship with you. We use RevenueCat to read the resulting entitlement so the app knows to unlock Premium.

Practically, this means: the store holds your payment method, the store issues your receipt, the store handles the charge, and the store decides refunds. We never see your card details.

If the store tells us your subscription has lapsed, expired or been refunded, the app will drop back to the free tier. Your logged data stays intact.

08Refunds and the right of withdrawal

Store refunds

Because Apple and Google are the sellers of record, refund requests go to them:

  • iOS / App Store — request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Android / Google Play — request a refund in the Play Store order history, or at play.google.com. Play self-serve refunds are generally available within 48 hours of purchase; after that the request goes to Google for review.

We cannot issue, force or guarantee a store refund. What we can do is look at the account, confirm what happened and write to the store in support of your request — email contact@getbiteline.com and we will.

EU and UK consumers: the 14-day withdrawal right

If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract for digital content. Because Premium unlocks immediately, you are asked to agree that performance begins at once, and by doing so you acknowledge that you lose that withdrawal right once it has begun. This does not affect your statutory rights if the service is faulty or not as described.

09Acceptable use

Do not:

  • Upload photos containing other people’s faces or identifiable personal information without their agreement, or anything illegal, sexual, violent or hateful. Scan food.
  • Use the app to give nutritional or medical advice to other people as if it were professional advice.
  • Automate, script, scrape or bulk-query the app or our API, or drive the scan endpoint with anything other than the app itself.
  • Work around the free-tier limit — multiple accounts, tampered clients, forged receipts, shared credentials.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or extract our prompts, models or source, except where the law expressly permits it.
  • Resell, sublicense or white-label Biteline, or use it to build a competing dataset or product.
  • Attack the service: probe for vulnerabilities without permission, overload it, or interfere with anyone else’s use of it. If you find a security issue, please report it to contact@getbiteline.com instead of exploiting it.

10Your photos and your data

Your meal photos and your logged entries stay yours. You give us only the licence we need to run the service: to store, transmit, resize and analyse your photo, and to display it back to you in your diary.

In practice that means a private Amazon S3 bucket in Paris (eu-west-3) and an AI analysis run by Amazon Bedrock in the EU — submitted to the Paris endpoint (eu-west-3) and served from AWS’s EU region group — so your photo is stored and processed inside the EU, and it is not sent to the model vendor’s own API.

That licence is limited to operating Biteline for you. We do not use your photos for marketing, we do not license them onward, and no model is trained on them — not ours, not AWS’s — see the Privacy Policy for the detail. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account.

You confirm you have the right to upload what you upload, and that doing so breaks no one else’s rights.

11Our intellectual property

Biteline, its name, logo, design, copy, code, prompts and databases belong to us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. These terms give you a licence to use the app, not any ownership of it.

If you send us feedback or a feature idea, we may use it freely and without owing you anything. That is not us claiming your work — it is us avoiding an argument about whether a suggestion in a support email created an obligation.

12Availability and changes

We aim to keep Biteline available and working, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We depend on third parties — app stores, cloud hosting, our AI provider — and any of them can have an outage.

We may release updates, change features, or take the service down for maintenance. Where an interruption is planned and significant, we will give notice where we reasonably can.

If a scan fails because of a fault on our side, it does not count against your daily allowance — we roll the count back.

13Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time: delete your account from the Profile screen in the app, under AccountDelete my account. Remember to cancel any store subscription separately — deleting the account does not cancel the billing, because the billing is not ours to cancel.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is being used fraudulently, or where the law requires it. Except where the breach is serious or unlawful, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix it. If we close a paid account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part of the period.

We may also discontinue Biteline entirely. If we do, we will give at least 30 days’ notice, stop taking renewals, refund the unused part of any paid period and give you a window to export your data.

14Warranties and limitation of liability

Biteline is provided “as is” and “as available”. Beyond what the law requires of us, we do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that estimates will be accurate, or that it will meet a particular goal you have.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or any health outcome arising from decisions you make using the app’s estimates.

Where we are liable, our total liability to you for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Biteline in that period, or fifty euro (€50).

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited: death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your mandatory statutory rights as a consumer. If you are a consumer in the EEA or the UK, those rights apply on top of this agreement and are not reduced by it.

15App Store and Google Play terms

These terms are between you and us, not between you and Apple or Google. Apple and Google are not responsible for Biteline, for support, or for any claim about it.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. If the app fails to conform to any warranty Apple is obliged to give, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation. Your use must also comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and the Google Play Terms of Service, as applicable.

16Changes to these terms

We update these terms when the product or the law changes. The date at the top always shows the current version.

For material changes we will give you notice in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Biteline after that date means you accept the new terms; if you do not, delete your account before the date and, if you are mid-subscription, ask us for a refund of the unused period.

17Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. Where a dispute cannot be settled between us, the competent court is the one designated by the applicable French rules of jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you may also bring proceedings in your own country’s courts.

Please contact us first — nearly everything is resolved by email. EU consumers may also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.

If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
